Myrtle Beach State Park: Things to do Near Captain’s Quarters

Myrtle Beach State Park PierIf you want a change from going to the beach every day, why not pay a visit to the Myrtle Beach State Park?

The park is a small one, less than a couple of square miles, so there’s no chance of getting lost. It is located adjacent to the beach and close to the International Airport, about 2 miles to the South of Captain’s Quarters Resort.

You’ll find plenty to keep you occupied including a fishing pier that stretches 200 yards into the Atlantic. You can fish either from the pier or from the beach. If you left your pole at home, don’t worry – you can always rent one in the park.

The Myrtle Beach State Park has hiking and biking trails that wind through the maritime forest and in wintertime you can ride a horse on the park’s equestrian trails, subject to certain conditions.

For the kiddies there are a number of playgrounds to enjoy. You can swim anywhere at your own risk along the parks mile-long beach, but there is also a designated swimming area with a lifeguard. Other activities in the park include bird watching, beachcombing and geo-caching.

The park also has an Education Center that provides ongoing science programs for school children. This center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, and houses salt water aquariums, live reptiles and interactive displays. There are also bird houses and a butterfly garden to enjoy.

Myrtle Beach State Park is a great Myrtle Beach attraction that makes for an interesting and educational alternative to the beach. So give it a shot on your next trip!
