Captain’s Quarters Resort Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Making Strides, American Cancer SocietyThe Vacation Myrtle Beach resort group is kicking off a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness, research and treatment as part of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.

Throughout the month of October and through November 23,Captain's Quarters Resort guests will be able to donate during the online booking process, over the phone while making a reservation or at the counter when they check in.  Vacation Myrtle Beach will make a matching donation for a portion of all of the funds that are collected throughout the campaign.

Breast cancer has touched most everyone in the Vacation Myrtle Beach family, whether through a colleague, a family member or a friend. It is estimated that more than 200,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

“All of us have been touched with some form of cancer in our lives, whether it be directly or indirectly, and we want to do what we can to help do away with this awful disease,” said Matt Klugman, Vacation Myrtle Beach spokesperson.  “The breast cancer awareness and fundraising campaign that we run each year is a top priority to every member of our staff, management and ownership, and we hope that we can continue to grow our levels of awareness and fundraising every year.”

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is expected to take the lives of nearly 40,000 women this year alone.  Breast cancer can affect women or even men of any age and according to the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention it is the second most reported type of cancer among women.

Kathy Stokes, Area Executive Director for the American Cancer Society, expressed her gratitude for all of the support the charity has received.

“We’re very fortunate to have groups like Vacation Myrtle Beach to assist us in an ongoing effort to raise funds and awareness through the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign,” Stokes said. “We still have a long way to go to eradicate breast cancer, but we’re making progress every day with help from all of the great support we have gotten.”

The resorts will run a number of various activities and fundraisers throughout the month to raise awareness.

“We like to have a lot of fun with our guests with all of the ways that we can raise money and awareness,” said Klugman.

The Vacation Myrtle Beach resort group will be running this campaign for the American Cancer Society for the third straight year after raising over $12,000 for the campaign in the fall of 2013.
