Things to do near Captain’s Quarters in February

Visitors taking a Myrtle Beach vacation at Captain’s Quarters in February may think that there won’t be much to down at the beach in mid-Winter. But there is plenty to keep you occupied along the Grand Strand in February, especially when staying at Captain’s Quarters, which is the most central of the Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts.

Every Saturday in mid-afternoon Brookgreen Gardens will hold a special winter afternoon tea party in the Pavilion Restaurant. Enjoy teatime treats and sweets with your family and friends. The winter temperatures in Myrtle Beach have been very mild this year, making a trip to Brookgreen Gardens a fantastic way to spend a Saturday.

On Friday February 8, Ripley's Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach are staging a Father – Daughter Dance. The dance is semi-formal and is open to dads, grand-dads and favorite uncles with that special little girl. As well as dancing there will be refreshments, desserts, photographs and lots and lots of fun. The following week on February 13 and 14 the Aquarium will be hosting a Tunnel of Love. It is a perfect place to take your paramour to a romantic dinner set in the tunnel beneath the main aquarium.

Fat Tuesday this year falls on February 12, and can be celebrated at Barefoot Landing by the annual Dick's Last Resort Mardi Gras Parade. Anyone can take part and it’s free – all you need is a decorated car, golf cart or motorcycle. In fact why not just gather a few friends around you and walk the parade. Everything starts at 5 pm and after the parade there will be an after-party at Dick’s and at other Barefoot Landing restaurants.

Or, a little closer to Captain’s Quarters is the Murrells Inlet Marshi Gras parade and festivities. Restaurants will have food and drink specials starting at 5 p.m., and the parade will start at 7 p.m. at Bovines and wind its way through various restaurants. Head down to this pretty new annual event and you won’t be disappointed.

Thursday February 14 and the following two days sees the running of the 16th annual Myrtle Beach Marathon – why three days? They’ve been set aside for those who don’t feel up to running a full marathon – other events include a half marathon, a 5 kilometer run, a family fun run and even a bicycle ride. The family fun run and 5k take you through Broadway at the Beach and are a perfect reason to go and visit that area. You can get in some exercise and then enjoy a great dinner or some shopping.

That same weekend there will also be another event at Broadway at the Beach meant for kids. The Annual Kidztime festival will be held on Saturday, January 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a farm animal exhibit, fire engine rides, mascots and Iron Man greeting kids.

At the end of the month, you can watch local high schoolers battle with technology! A regional robotics competition will be held at Myrtle Beach High School from Thursday through Saturday, March 1. The 1,200 participants will be on teams from 12 other states as well as one from Brazil.

You can get more details on these and other events by visiting the Captain’s Quarters events page since this is just a sample of the great things going on this month around Captain's Quarters and doesn't include the many special events going on for Valentine's Day.
