Ripley’s Believe It Or Not: Great Family Attraction
Recently, my cousins came to Myrtle Beach for the very first time. They had never been to the ocean or even been on an airplane. We filled the week with fun visiting various Myrtle Beach attractions and destinations. Near the end of the week I asked the younger of my two cousins what his favorite thing was that we did that week beyond the beach and having fun at Captain’s Quarters. To my surprise, he said his favorite was Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium.
I was only surprised because I knew I enjoyed and he enjoyed it, but I did not expect this 10-year-old to list this Myrtle Beach attraction as the highlight of the week.
There are many reasons that he and the rest of my family enjoyed this Myrtle Beach museum. One thing is, this isn’t a typical museum. In fact, they prefer that you refer to it as an Odditorium, because it is just that – a collection of the odd and fun!
A great thing about the Odditorium is the fact that it caters to many ages. All of the signs throughout the building are easy to read, so you don’t feel like you are in a boring museum. There are also tons of images and interactive portions of the attraction. You will find yourself stopping and thinking, wow, is that really real?
One of the kids’ favorite parts of the Odditorium was the area where you stand on a walkway with railings and you are surrounded by a large spinning tube. There are lights shining on the tube as it spins, creating an effect that the walkway you are standing on is tipping. Before you know it you are losing you balance, all based on perception!
Another popular feature was the Recollections room where you dance to popular music while images are created on the screen of your movements (in a crazy sort of way). The room can fit multiple people in it and the kids had a blast!
All in all, they had a great time and I highly recommend this attraction to any family that visits Myrtle Beach for their vacation.
Be sure to check out Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium next time you stay at Captain’s Quarters. You won’t regret it! Bring your VMB Card with you and you will get $2 off each ticket at the door as long as you aren’t using a combo ticket. Have fun! -Julia
