Restaurants Near Captain’s Quarters: Croissants Bistro and Bakery
If this is one of your first Myrtle Beach vacations, you may find the choice of eating places mind boggling. After all, with more than 1,500 restaurants that together cater for every taste under the sun, there’s always the chance that first one you choose and actually get to sit down in ends up being not the best for everyone in your party. A few hints before making that first choice are always welcome.
Let’s take a look at the highlights of Croissants Bistro and Bakery to help you decide if it’s right for your vacation group.
The restaurant is located at the junction of the Robert M Grissom Parkway and 38th Avenue, a little under 3 miles from Captain’s Quarters and close to a number of Myrtle Beach attractions.
Croissants, which opened in 1995, is owned by Heidi Vukov, who learnt much of her baking skills from her grandmother in Germany. European bakeries have been her inspiration, and this can be seen in many of the creations that come from the bakery side of the business. The Bistro is the other side, and is well worth a visit. It is open for breakfast, which is served until 11 a.m., lunch and evening meals. The breakfast menu offers a good selection of dishes. There are pancakes and five omelette choices, or you can opt for the more traditional Southern style breakfast that includes a permutation of eggs to order, bacon, sausage, grits, peppers and French toast.
The lunch menu at the Bistro consists of a wide range of sandwiches, wraps, flatbreads, tacos, soups and salads. The restaurant makes a point of utilizing fresh local ingredients in their menu, sourcing them from local growers and fishermen, with whom good relationships have been made over the years. The Bistro also carries a Sunday Brunch menu, which is served between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
It is the dinner menu that really sets Croissants aside from other restaurants. Starters consist of what they call ‘Small Plates’, soups and salads. These are followed by an extremely good selection of ‘Field’ and ‘Fleet’. There are steaks, burgers, meatloaf and a rack of lamb, and in the fish menu items such as grouper, scallops, shrimp, and salmon. Each menu choice has a detailed description and comes with a recommendation of a suitable wine, something that many other restaurants could take note of.
Croissants Bakery specializes in wedding cakes and cakes for ‘that special occasion’, and looking at their gallery of samples you would be excused for thinking you were looking at a sample of cakes from any of the popular televised baking shows. Clearly there is a lot of talent that goes into their design and production. The bakery is not limited to just cakes, they also make a selection of ‘designer cookies’ that can be made to order.
And since you’re staying at Captain’s Quarters, one of the Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts and hotels, you’ll also want to be sure to take along your room key/ Myrtle Beach discounts card when you visit Croissants to get one free bomber shrimp appetizer with the purchase of any two entrees.
