Nearby Attractions: State Parks
Myrtle Beach is full of family fun and that includes state parks! There are two state parks not far from Captain’s Quarters Resort. One is located in Myrtle Beach, the other just a short drive south in Murrells Inlet. Both of these
nearby parks offer family fun all summer long.
Myrtle Beach State Park: Myrtle Beach State Park is not far at all from Captain’s Quarters. If your family wants to experience a bit more nature and a bit less crowds, then Myrtle Beach State Park is the place to go. This nearby attraction features picnic shelters, a fishing pier, playground equipment and more. Families can relax on the beach, go fishing, cook out, ride bikes or even do some bird watching and geocaching at this state park. During the summer the beach is staffed with a lifeguard, so your family can feel safe while enjoying this Myrtle Beach park. Want to go for a walk? Check out the Sculptured Oak Nature Trail or stop by the Education Center for more information on what to keep an eye out for while you walk through the park. In addition to self-guided activities, a variety of programs take place at the park during the summer such as Sea Turtle Patrol, Nifty and Nocturnal, Feeding Time and Story Time.
Huntington Beach State Park: Head down Highway 17 to reach this nearby park. Located in Murrells Inlet across from Brookgreen Gardens, Huntington Beach State Park is a great place to spend the day. As you drive in over the causeway, keep an eye out for alligators in the water on the right and a variety of birds on both sides and flying overhead. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars! This park is also located on the beach and is staffed with a lifeguard during the summer. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the park’s picnic tables or check out Atalaya -- a castle-like historical structure on the property. After exploring the park, check out the on-site park store and gift shop offers, which offers free Wi-Fi and a variety of items to purchase.
