Exhibits You Don’t Want to Miss this Summer at Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is just a short drive south of Myrtle Beach down Highway 17 in Murrells Inlet. One of the most popular places to visit along the Grand Strand, this attraction should be on your-to-do-list the next time you visit Myrtle Beach.

With a variety of permanent exhibits and seasonal exhibits, there is much to see at the gardens. Below is our list of the exhibits that you don’t want to miss the next time you visit Brookgreen Gardens:

Kent Ullberg: A Retrospective: The temporary exhibit will be at Brookgreen Gardens from May 17 until August 3, 2014. A traveling exhibit, it features 48 works of art by Ullberg. A culmination of a great known sculpture artist, this show will feature a variety of his pieces ranging in creation date from the late 1960’s to early 2000’s. If you are a lover of art, you don’t want to miss this exhibit, which is included with general garden admission.

Summer Seasonal Blooms: Each season brings new life to the property as a variety of flowers and other plants bloom to their fullest in various locations on the grounds. The summer season sees a resurgence of a variety of perennials, shrubs, trees and vines. The summer blooming includes such plants as Ginger Lily, Purple Coneflower, Oleander, Crape Myrtle, Evergreen Chinese Wisteria and Lantana.

Lowcountry Zoo and Domestic Animal Exhibit: For all animal lovers, a visit to the zoo at Brookgreen Gardens is an absolute must. Here you can view a variety of animals including wild turkeys, owls, river otters, alligators, egrets, a bald eagle and horses. Visit their Cypress Aviary where you can view birds in a natural setting to complete your visit to the zoo.

Enchanted Storybrook Forest: Open daily, this is an exhibit geared towards kids and is one that is okay for them to touch and even play in! Free with your admission, kids can wander around a variety of interactive storybook playhouses that will transport your child into the book and bring reading into the fun as well. Make your way through Rapunzel’s Tower or find yourself in Hanzel and Gretel’s Gingerbread House or pretend to be a princess in Cinderella’s Castle.

Live Oak Allee: Back when Brookgreen Gardens was a plantation, the Live Oak Allee was the main entrance to the property. Here you can still find beautiful oak trees covered in Spanish moss along the path. A beautiful photo op, this location is a great place to visit during your tour of Brookgreen Gardens.
