Top Myrtle Beach Attractions You May Not Know About

By Captain's Quarters

Myrtle Beach is filled with fun and attractions. You’ll want to make sure you hit all of the popular attractions while in Myrtle Beach like Ripley’s Aquarium, WonderWorks, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and the SkyWheel, but there are some attractions in Myrtle Beach that are a bit off the beaten path.

Consider checking these Myrtle Beach attractions during your next vacation at Captain’s Quarters Resort:

Waccatee Zoo: The Waccatee Zoo is located about 25 minutes from Captain’s Quarters Resort in the Socastee area of Myrtle Beach. This Myrtle Beach gem sits on 50 acres of viewing land open to the public. Kids and adults alike can enjoy meandering through the zoo and come face to face with all sorts of animals including goats, tigers, buffalo, monkeys and birds. The zoo is even home to more than 100 types of animals! With your Myrtle Beach discounts card you will get 10% off your entry to the zoo! Be sure to bring your camera to this Myrtle Beach attraction and buy a bag of peanuts when you get your tickets, because at this zoo they let you feed some of the animals! This zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Add this attraction to your to-do list!

The Children’s Museum of South Carolina: The Children’s Museum of South Carolina is a great place to visit in Myrtle Beach if you have young children. It’s a great fallback plan for a rainy day! Through interactive exhibits and hands-on fun, the museum offers children a great way to learn while having a good time. From Bubble Mania, to South Carolina Fossil Hunt to the Express Yourself Art Center, this children’s attraction will provide your little one with hours of fun. Plus, throughout the year they host special activities and events like Animal Encounters and Tales for Tots. Days open and hours vary by season, so check with them when planning your vacation.

Myrtle Beach State Park: While it’s easy to head to the beach from Captain’s Quarters (just walk a few feet outside), if you want a change of scenery you may want to check out the Myrtle Beach State Park. Just jump on Kings Hwy. and head south. You will see the entrance on the left. There is a fee to get in (free for 5 and under), but it is worth it. If you live in South Carolina, you may want to consider purchasing a Statewide Park Passport, which will get your entire carload in free to all the State Park in the state for an entire year. Once you are inside you can have a picnic at one of their many picnic tables, take a walk on their pier for free (or purchase a fishing pass) play games in the grass, visit the nature center (open based on season), have fun at one of the three playgrounds, ride your bike, and relax on the beach. Plus, there are on-site bathrooms, which will make your time at the park a little easier. Open daily, their hours vary by season. Add this Myrtle Beach attraction to your family’s vacation list – you won’t regret it!
