August marks the last few weeks of summer before the kids go back to school, and the month is full of events that you can attend during your Myrtle Beach vacation at Captain’s Quarters.
August 3 – 5 sees the 30th Annual Craftsmen's Summer Classic Arts & Crafts Festival at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. You will be able to see a wide variety of craft work being exhibited by as many as 450 participants. The work on display includes country crafts, high end jewelry, paintings, furniture, photography, sculptures and more. Every booth has been professionally prepared, giving an upscale look to the show. Remember to get a return pass as admission is good for three days. The event was founded 38 years ago by the Gilmore family of Greensboro, NC, who wanted to create a nationwide ‘family’ of craftsmen and artists.
A good game of baseball is always popular, and in August the Myrtle Beach Pelicans will be hosting four visiting teams at their field. These are Frederick Keys on August 3 - 5, Potomac Nationals on 7 – 9, Carolina Mudcats 16 – 19 and the Salem Red Sox on 20 - 23. Be sure to take your VMB Myrtle Beach discounts card along with you to enjoy any benefits offered on the day you attend. You can locate the Pelicans’ field at the junction of 21st Ave N and the Robert M Grissom Pkwy.
Monday, August 27 - Friday, August 31 sees the Golf.com DuPont World Amateur Handicap Golf Tournament being held at Myrtle Beach. This year more than 3,000 amateur golfers from all over America as well as from 20 foreign countries will be converging on Myrtle Beach hotels and resorts to take part in the event, which will be on 10 golf courses. This year the event sees its 29th running and if you’re an amateur golfer you can expect a week full of fun with nightly parties and live entertainment. This tournament is a favorite with amateur golfers the world over.
If you have kids you might like to take them along to the Myrtle Beach State Park. The park runs an educational program throughout the summer months and designed for kids of different ages. Most lessons are an hour or less with such intriguing titles as Turtle Scene Investigation, Calls of the Wild and Litter Critters. And the state park is only a short distance from Captain's Quarters, as you can see on this Myrtle Beach resorts map.
