The New York City Fire Department is on a mission – they are bicycling from Ground Zero in New York City all the way to Fort Pierce, Florida, where they will end their 18-day trip at The National Navy-UDT SEAL Museum.

This 1,400 mile trek will involve peddling across the eastern part of the country, all for a good cause – to promote awareness for the museum as well as for the Memorial Trident House, which is a waterfront home located in Florida that is utilized for fallen U.S. Navy SEAL’s families as well as for a getaway for injured SEAL members and their families. Additionally the ride will be done in remembrance of those affected by 9/11 and for those who lost their lives.

The ride departed on March 19 and has travelled anywhere from 50.8 miles up to 128.3 miles per day, with only handful of rest days. The firefighters have already made their way through Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Richmond, Greenville and will soon be heading through Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville and Daytona before ending their ride in Fort Pierce.

Captain’s Quarters Resort is proud to be the pit stop for the Myrtle Beach section of the route as the participants of the ride will be staying with us on March 27 before continuing down to Charleston.

Throughout the trek the firefighters will be stopping at various firehouses, towns and military bases and will also be selling ride t-shirts to raise money for the cause.

A unique item will be making its way down the coast with the group – a 14-foot steel “I Beam” and “Halligan” tool that came from the World Trade Center debris. They will present this to the SEAL community at Fort Pierce.

We are thankful to be a small part of this great feat being completed by the FDNY as they make their way down to Florida, despite the rain and elements.
