Myrtle Beach WonderWorks Tips
WonderWorks is one Myrtle Beach attraction that you have to see to believe.
Located at Broadway at the Beach, it is the “upside down building” that sits tilted on the northwest side of Broadway.
Before leaving the hotel, be sure that everyone is wearing closed-toed shoes and that the girls in the family aren’t wearing skirts. This step will come in handy, because some of the attractions at WonderWorks don’t allow sandals or skirts. And be sure to bring your VMB Card, because you’ll get a free mood color-changing souvenir cup with soda by showing it.
When you arrive you can usually park somewhat close to the building because it is located on the edge of the property, so it’s close to the parking lot.
Entering in the lobby you will feel like you are in an upside down room! This is the continuation of the theme of the outside of the building, where everything is not like it should be!
Once you approach the ticket counter, you will want to decide what ticket to buy. The staff will help explain it all if you aren’t sure. You can get the General Admission ticket, which includes admission as well as the indoor ropes course or you can upgrade to a combo pack and add on the Lazer Tag or the Soar + Explore Ropes Course and Zipline (which are located outside). You may want to get the general admission for the adults and the Lazer Tag or Ropes Course package for the kids if you want to save some money.
The first thing you will walk through after receiving your tickets is the Inversion Tunnel. Here you will feel like you are tipping over and that you aren’t standing up straight even though you are! A combination of a rotating tunnel, darkness and lights tricks the mind into thinking otherwise!
Once you regain your balance, you can check out the Titanic display which lets you feel just how steep the ship was when it sank and learn more about the Titanic. You can also stick your hand in icy water to see how cold the ocean was the night that it sank.
Following the Titanic, you will probably want to try out the Hurricane Shack. The employee manning it will equip you with goggles and let you in the shack. A narrator will explain the force of hurricane winds and then you too will be able to feel what an 84 mph hurricane feels like!
After feeling the not-so-pleasant wind in your face you can check out the Time Machine, which will allow you to take a picture of yourself and have it emailed to you years in the future! It will even let you pick an exact day, month and year to have it sent out.
Next, you can head over to the Natural Disaster Information Center where you can try your hand at trivia at their interactive stations.
As you can see, the first section of WonderWorks has a theme of disasters. Other themes you will encounter during your journey through this Myrtle Beach attraction include space and illusions.
With about 100 different interactive and mind-boggling exhibits, you and your family will surely learn many new things during your trip!
You’ll want to plan to spend about three hours at WonderWorks, or longer if they are busy. If you want to split up your day and go to WonderWorks in the morning then come back again that night, you can do that too, because they do allow you to reenter with your paid ticket during the same day.
