March is a great time to visit Captain’s Quarters. It is the beginning of the spring festival season in Myrtle Beach, meaning there are lots of things to do and reasons to come down and enjoy the fantastic weather.
On March 10, the second surf-skate expo and seafood taco cook-off will be held in Murrells Inlet. With sea themed artwork for sale, a seafood taco cook-off, live entertainment and plenty of vendors this is a must-see event for any vacationer. Admission is free and the event lasts all Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Also on March 10 is the Huntington Beach State Park Atalaya 3 in 1 Day. This is the annual celebration of the birthdays and wedding of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, the former owners of the park. To celebrate their lives there will be period-dressed actors, artwork for sale and a cake and champagne toast to the couple at the end of the day. Tickers to this event are $10 in addition to the park entrance fee.
Starting on March 13 and running through March 15 is the Run to the Sun Car show. This annual car show brings hundreds of classic cars to the area. Highlights include a kick-off party on Friday night at Broadway at the Beach and a cruise down Ocean Boulevard.
For those looking to get some pep in their step, a National Cheer and Dance Competition will be held on March 22 through the 24 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Hundreds of teams from across the country will be competing for a chance to be crowned national champs. The entrance fee is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 5-12 and free for children under 5.
The month finishes with the 8th annual Race for the Inlet at 8 a.m. There will be a 5k walk/run, an 8k run and a 5 k stroller run all beginning at Morse Park Landing. Come out and walk or just enjoy a festive day on the marsh.
