Tips for a Dog Friendly Myrtle Beach Vacation

Dogs just want to have fun, too. If you can’t bear to leave your furry, four-legged family member behind while you vacation in Myrtle Beach, check out these dog-friendly Myrtle Beach attractions.

  • Barc Parcs. Myrtle Beach features two dog parks where your fuzzy friend can run and play off-leash. Barc Parc South, off Mallard Lake Drive near Grand Park and the Market Common, includes 14 acres for dogs to run in and a big lake for water lovers. The South Barc Park is only a short drive from Captain’s Quarters as well. The smaller Barc Park North is next to the Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA on 62nd Avenue North Extension. Parks are open from sunup to sundown.

  • Barefoot Landing. You can stroll around the lake at Barefoot Landing with your dog, as long as it’s on a leash. Plus, many Barefoot Landing restaurants allow you to dine with your pet in outdoor seating areas. Don’t forget to stop at The Baker’s Dog to get a toy or a special treat.

  • Myrtle Beach State Park. If you want to spend a day at the State Park, your dog is allowed to join you as long as it’s kept on a six-foot leash and does not bark excessively. The State Park is a great place to go for a long, leashed walk with your pet. Pets aren’t allowed in the cabins or apartments. Also, remember dogs aren’t allowed on the beach during peak hours during summer months.

Pets on the beach rules: Between May 1 and Labor Day, dogs are allowed on Myrtle Beach before 10:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m., and are allowed on the boardwalk only during early mornings (5:00-10:00 a.m.). Your dog must be on a leash at all times, and don’t forget the pooper scooper.

Most VacationMyrtleBeach.com hotels and resorts don’t allow pets, however, there are plenty of doggie boarding and daycare facilities nearby that can take care of your pet while you relax on your vacation. Try these facilities for your furry friend:

  • K9 Cabana- Located off of Highway 544 (also known as Dick Pond Road) this boarding facility is known as a dog's resort and spa. You can reach them at 843-748-0351 But please note that they are closed daily between noon and 3 p.m. for naptime.

  • Happy Pets of Carolina- Also located off of Highway 544, this day care and boarding facility caters to local residents and vacationers alike with overnight and day-time services. Give them a call at 843-492-7438 to see if they can meet your furry friends' needs.

  • Benji’s Bed and Breakfast- Located in Pawleys Island, this boarding facility prides itself on offering "five-star" pet service, guaranteeing to pamper your pet on their vacation. Interested in pampering your pooch? Call them at 843-237-7117.

A reputable local boarding facility will keep your pet healthy, safe, and entertained--plus your pet will be close enough to visit and perhaps join you for some pet-friendly Myrtle Beach activities. There’s no reason to leave Fido or Fluffy at home when you’re off on your Myrtle Beach vacation.
